Homeowners in West Palm and Miami, Florida want their houses to look beautiful, and a huge part of that is the quality of the lighting. In business since 1982, Carpenter Electric, the premier electricians of West Palm, understands the lighting dreams of their Florida customers, and strives to make them come true.

Designing West Palm lighting is an art form as well as technical skill. Our technicians will take stock of the orientation of the house, how much natural light it gets, and the size of the rooms to figure out the best lighting design while maintaining energy efficiency.

Lighting that gives both the proper light levels and pleasure begins with the correct light bulbs. Most people like incandescent light, as it’s warm, but these lights are inefficient, waste energy and are short lived. Contrary to what many people think, beautiful lighting can also be created with fluorescent lights. People generally dislike fluorescents because they’re cold, giving off a blue-ish tint, but advances in technology have made them a bit warmer. Fluorescent lights can’t be focused but are good for general lighting. They also last far longer than incandescent lights. Halogen lights are very bright and warm but the bulbs get very hot. But halogen lights can be run by low voltage lighting systems and also last longer than incandescent bulbs. There are also light emitting diodes, or LEDs, which are very energy efficient, cool and can last for years without being changed.

We generally plan a lighting scheme around three types of West Palm lighting. But like paint, they can be used in different ways to enhance a room.

General lighting gives a room a basic brightness. General lighting usually comes from a ceiling or a wall fixture, with lamps giving supplemental light. These are good for the bedrooms and the more public rooms in the house, though kitchens, baths and laundry rooms might need light a bit brighter than what’s used in a bedroom or living room.

Task lighting is used largely in the bathrooms, the kitchen or other work spaces. It allows people to get a good look at what they’re doing because the light is focused on the work area. Many of these lights are installed on the undersides of cabinets.

Accent lighting is used to pick out an aspect of the room the homeowner wants to highlight. This can be a fireplace, paintings or other works of art. A room might have a selection of accent lights that can be operated individually and whose brightness can be controlled to establish a mood. Our technicians can install such a control system for our customer’s lighting.

We can also install West Palm lighting outdoors. These lights can be installed along walkways for security, but they don’t need to be unattractive. Some types of bollard lights that are set up in a landscape can be quite interesting in and of themselves. We can install other spotlights to bathe the scene in brilliant light while remaining invisible. Lights can also be installed on or around steps, or placed on walls or in trees. All the landscape lighting we install is made specifically for outdoor use and won’t be damaged in harsh weather conditions.
